It's nearly 12 hours since this morning, and I've been going through some serious procrastination, but it's been a lazy day. So I'm inclined to forgive myself, somewhat.

I could have sworn she smiled at me. This HC girl who appeared out of nowhere, or rather somewhere up from the building. Shida saw her first, made some comment and roused the interest of the other guys. I distinctly remember looking at them and saying, "Eh, looking at what? Chiobu arh?" and then turning around, before spitting out, "Chey.." then turning around to look again.

As usual. Petite with long hair, sweet, demure face. That doesn't justify though, why I did what I did. I mean, there are some things which you feel like doing, but you know you can't, due to a host of reasons which make sense at varying times. It doesn't hurt anyone; you can't literally die of embarassment. The point in time came, when some idiot (not sure who, think it was Yan) in his own fit of excitement, thumped the ball high in the air, and very coincidentally into her direction. By some enormous stroke of luck, it managed to bounce beside her two metres away. Kyle immediately gave a whoop and started off in her direction. Except that I had already taken off.

I think the hundred metres was a weird sensation, 'cos I was already cursing myself for volunteering to retrieve the ball. I'd like to think I was frustrated that everyone had forgotten about the soccer game, and I was trying to get on with things, but.. guess not. Any decent athlete knows you can't think otherwise about victory; it inevitably affects your performance as the first step is.. misstepped. The sudden ruckus growing behind did not help matters. I could vision my soccer mates stripping off their shirts, waving their flags in the air and hollering at the top of their lungs, and they were seriously loud. Practically yelling and screeching, and most undesirably, whistling. Yes, wolf whistles. All the way till I reached her side, said thanks for her attempt at returning the ball, and then letting her go.

Never heard a crescendo of cheers die down so fast, nor the sudden wave of disappointed murmurings.

Maybe I did think of talking to her. But I guess there was no chance of that. I wouldn't expect any girl to stay long, when there are like ten topless guys cheering on another chap who seems to have a sudden serious crush on her. It seemed that way, didn't it?

All I can really vividly remember, was her turning towards me, and smile. Was it one of pity?

(Chu Pei said the whole incident should've been taped. He said my slow jog towards her was like a scene out of some Korean movie, and I'm just glad my back view looks nice.)
